Our Health Service is expanding and so is our Prison Health Services Team! • Prison and Youth Detention Health Services (PYDHS) is a rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and Young Persons across eight facilities (six Correctional Centres and two Youth Detention Centres).

About the role
In the position of Principal House Officer/Registrar you will be expected to participate in the provision of high-level primary health care services within Prison Health Services and to ensure that safe, high quality, patient centered care is provided. In the role of Principal House Officer/Registrar you will be supported and encourage to expand your education and training in primary health care and become an important member of a dynamic and passionate Prison Health Services team.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:
- Provide primary health care services under the supervision of senior medical staff.
- Be encouraged to develop management plans and perform medical treatment and investigations under supervision of senior medical staff.
- Initiate, encourage and participate in research, evaluation and evidence based treatment and care aimed at achieving demonstrable improvements in patient care and service outcomes and that reflect contemporary medical practice.
- Involvement in Principal House Officer/Registrar teaching to further your education and training in the discipline of primary health care and emergency response.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality medical care to patients in primary health care.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary health care team.
- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated committment to own development and continuous self-improvement and identifies learning opportunities in every day work.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
