About the role
Take the lead in providing exceptional, front-line legal support for the Queensland Public Trustee (QPT) as the Managing Lawyer within the Office of the Official Solicitor, Customer Legal Services unit. This role places you in charge of a skilled legal team, delivering high-quality services that uphold professional standards and support the QPT's mission of serving Queenslanders.
As a Managing Lawyer, you'll oversee legal matters in areas such as succession law, property law, equity and trusts, and elder and disability law. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism, legal expertise, and a commitment to exceptional service. This role entails representing the QPT in courts and tribunals across Queensland, mentoring and managing a team of legal professionals and providing legal advice ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, public sector standards and Office policies.

About you
You are a proactive and collaborative individual with a strong focus on mentoring and developing others. You are detail-orientated with a passion for customer service excellence. You have demonstrated expertise in the areas critical to the QPT's work. You possess strong leadership, strategic thinking and an ability to manage complex legal matters.
To excel in this role, the following attributes will be your keys to success:
- Proficiency in property law, succession law, elder/disability law, equity and trusts, and litigation across state and federal jurisdictions.
- Ability to effectively engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment in all legal matters.
- A commitment to ethical decision-making and cultural inclusivity.
- Commitment to delivering superior legal services with a customer-focused approach, ensuring timely and effective resolution of legal issues.
- A degree in Law or equivalent, with admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
- Eligibility for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic legal environment, handling complex and diverse cases with innovative solutions.
- Strong leadership skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing others.
