The Director Operations is a key member of the Commission's senior leadership team and has principal responsibility to manage a high performing multi-disciplinary team that supports the Commissioner in the discharge of all regulatory and operational obligations. You will be the Commissioner's senior business adviser and responsible for the strategic and operational engagement, policy, performance and communications of the Commission.
You will have experience in providing senior level strategic and organisational advice, government policy reform, and performance delivery. You are a senior peoples' leader with a track record in delivering in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

As the Director Operations at the Commission, you will be responsible for leading a team that is central to the performance of the Commissioner's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007, in directing external engagement and internal performance. You will also provide expert operational advice on the Commissioner's functions, statutory responsibilities and service deliverables.
You will:
- lead and effectively manage the Commission's Operations team, as well as leading and assisting with management of operations across the Commission;
- review, develop and, where necessary, drive complex legislative and policy change designed to enhance the Commission's undertaking of its statutory obligations and regulatory functions;
- develop and manage practice systems and processes required to effectively prepare and deliver the Commission's strategic and operational plans;
- establish and manage the Commission's performance framework, including a supporting data management system that enables effective analysis and reporting for both operational and organisational performance oversight and reporting ;
- proactively monitor and, where appropriate, improve policies, procedures, work practice and management systems to enable the Commission to continually improve effective and efficient standards of service;
- lead and effectively manage operational management across human resources, infrastructure, workplace health, safety and wellbeing, risk and compliance and information technology;
- develop an effective engagement plan designed to both educate and inform key stakeholders, such as the legal profession, co-regulators, departmental stakeholders and consumers of legal services, including leading and managing effective communications plans;
- oversee the development and management of operating budgets to achieve optimal operational service delivery in compliance with relevant standards, audit and governance requirements, including annual report, budget submissions, forward estimates, mid-year reviews, funding and project information and other ad hoc information;
- develop and implement the Commission's risk management plan and continuous improvement program;
- manage the delivery of the corporate services and projects required to support the Commission's operations, including coordinating external providers and consultants;
- advise, mentor, and support the team by actively fostering a team operating environment built on a good work ethic, interactive, consistent work practice and quality results;
- abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (as amended from time to time) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations (if an admitted lawyer);
- be responsible for a number of statutory delegations on behalf of the Commissioner from time to time, including right to information, privacy, public interest disclosures and other statutory processes.
As a member of the Commission's senior leadership team you will:
- contribute to ongoing review of legislative and policy change to enhance the Commission's undertaking of its statutory and regulatory obligations, particularly those functions within your team's responsibility;
- provide leadership and appropriate management of the Commission's resources to ensure its statutory powers, obligations, and functions under the Act are appropriately applied;
provide oversight of the Commission's strategic and operational performance provide professional representation of the Commissioner at external forums and meetings.
