The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) is an independent statutory tribunal established under the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2009 (the QCAT Act).

Ordinary Members hear and decide matters within the Tribunal as determined by the President. Depending on the Ordinary Member's particular expertise, the Ordinary Member may hear matters across a number of different divisions.

QCAT is seeking to appoint one (1) Ordinary Member on a full-time, permanent basis, for a period of at least 3 but no more than 5 years.

QCAT is also seeking expressions of interest for appointment as a Sessional Member. Sessional Members are Ordinary Members who are engaged on a sessional basis to undertake specific hearings, conferences or other work as needed by the Tribunal. Sessional members do work for QCAT in Brisbane and in regional areas. Expressions of interest are sought from people who would wish to do QCAT work in Brisbane, regional areas, or both.

The right applicant will have excellent legal skills, the ability to think and decide matters quickly (regularly being required to deliver ex tempore decisions), good interpersonal and communication skills, a willingness and ability to use IT, and a very good attitude towards attitude towards assisting QCAT to discharge its statutory objectives, including being a ‘team player', that is willing to step in for other Tribunal decision-makers when needed.
