Queensland Treasury is seeking a senior executive leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Deputy Under Treasurer, Industry and Budget. This role presents a rare opportunity to influence the State's economic prosperity, drive budget strategy across government, and deliver outcomes that matter for Queenslanders.

As Deputy Under Treasurer, you will lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing strategic advice on economic, industry and climate policy, while overseeing the delivery of whole-of-government budget processes. You will play a critical role in supporting government decision-making, ensuring accountability, and shaping sustainable fiscal outcomes for Queensland's future.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the State Budget process by overseeing budget strategy, fiscal planning and budget-related processes across Treasury and government.
  • Provide trusted strategic advice on complex economic, industry development and climate policy issues, enabling government to make informed decisions.
  • Drive economic outcomes by developing strategies and championing initiatives that strengthen Queensland's economic and industry base.
  • Partner with agencies to support responsible and practical budget management that delivers a stronger economy and sustainable fiscal outcomes.
  • Represent Treasury in high-level negotiations and consultations, navigating sensitive and complex issues to secure positive policy and fiscal results.

What experience you will bring:
We are seeking a proven leader who brings vision, influence and the ability to deliver results in a complex public sector environment. To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • A strong track record of executive leadership in large and complex organisations.
  • Deep expertise in Cabinet, budget and estimates processes, along with experience in shaping and delivering complex policy frameworks and initiatives.
  • The ability to provide robust, timely and influential public policy advice.
  • A collaborative approach that builds strong partnerships across government, industry and the community.
  • Experience leading large-scale, cross-sector projects with measurable impact.
  • High-level political acumen and capability to manage diverse and sensitive stakeholder relationships.
  • A reputation as an agent of change, with the ability to drive innovation and deliver creative solutions to complex challenges.

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.
