As the Principal Legal Policy Officer, you will provide expert and authoritative advice and analysis on complex legal policy issues, and lead and undertake strategic policy development, strategies and initiatives relevant to the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (CSO Act) and other sector regulators and enables of the child safety system in Queensland.

You will also have legislative obligations outlined in the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) to participate in identifying and managing physical and psychological risks to employee's health, safety and wellbeing.

In this role you will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior management on a broad range of strategic legal policy issues, projects and initiatives relating to the needs of children and young people.
  • Lead and manage complex legal policy projects to ensure the strategic goals and objectives of Child Safe Organisations Act are achieved, including advice of information sharing requirements and protocols.
  • Undertake effective consultation across the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services Queensland and with other relevant sector regulators on legal policy matters.
  • Undertake, lead and manage the development and implementation of legislative and policy projects, including the ability to draft and advisor in memorandums of understanding and information and data sharing opportunities and limitations across government.
  • Research and analyse major legal policy issues and develop workable solutions of relevance to the child protection system generally, as well as how best to support children and families, carers or service providers.
