As a member of the Queensland and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) Team within the Weapons Licensing Group (WLG), your responsibilities will include evaluating, researching, and responding to applications for review under the Weapons Act 1990.
The WLG QCAT Team operates in an inclusive and adaptive work environment. In this capacity, you will play a vital role in supporting operations by analysing complex legal and policy matters related to the Weapons Act, thereby contributing to improved case management outcomes.

Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Assess, research and respond to applications to review a decision under the Weapons Act before the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
- Process general administrative review proceedings and exercise decision making under the Weapons Act and provide advice to clients and management.
- Research and analyse complex legal and policy issues associated with the Weapons Act, impacting upon the operations of Weapons Licensing and the Queensland Police Service to improve case management outcomes.
- Provide timely high level advice to senior management concerning weapons related QCAT decisions and trends in weapons licence applications to inform future policy amendments.
- Liaise, consult and negotiate with clients, committees, agents and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate, develop and review submissions relating to applications for QCAT and other weapons licensing review proceedings
- Contribute to the development of policy, practice and procedures relating to decisions made under the Weapons Act.
- Provide guidance and assistance to team members to ensure work priorities are met, including quality assurance checks and the processing and completion of decisions case managed within the team.
- Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, feedback and mentoring support to team members.
