The Planning Manager role is responsible for leading a team to efficiently deliver strategic transport planning projects and develop state-wide strategies. This currently includes a focus on delivering Regional Transport Plans, conducting Area Transport Studies to support growth, and collaborating closely with other government departments on initiatives such as Regional Plan reviews and Infrastructure Plan development.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Leading the development, delivery and on-going management of a program of complex multi-modal transport planning studies and strategies. This includes delivering Regional Transport Plans and supporting growth through Area Transport Studies, aligned with Regional Plan reviews and best practice Movement and Place principles.
• Managing issues and public information about transport planning projects, including the provision of high-level strategic advice, reports and general correspondence to the Director, Executive Director, General Manager, Deputy Director-General, Director-General and the Minister.
• Project leadership and direction across multiple projects or areas of work (involving transport strategy and planning branch and other departmental staff) to effectively coordinate and deliver various project activities on time and within budget.
• Providing guidance and advice to colleagues in transport study methodologies and techniques.
• Fostering effective working relationships with key stakeholders (consult and negotiate with internal and external agencies), and represent the department at meetings, forums and relevant working groups on strategic transport planning issues.
• Leading and managing the operation, welfare and technical development of the team, including active participation in performance conversations to build and support a culture of high performance, safety and well-being.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Experience of leading high performing multi-disciplinary teams, driving a culture mthat values diversity and embraces change.
• Knowledge and understanding of transport infrastructure planning, multi-modal transport systems, and/or regional planning frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to apply project management principles and methodology to deliver complex transport planning studies, plans and reports.
