The Parole Board Queensland was established under the Corrective Services Act 2006 (CSA) on 3 July 2017 as an independent authority and its statutory functions and powers are exercised independently of influence by Queensland Corrective Services (QCS).
The Parole Board Queensland Secretariat is a command established under the Community Corrections and Specialist Operations division, QCS. The Secretariat, which includes the Legal Services Unit, supports the Board through the provision of administrative and legal support in accordance with QCS’ statutory obligations under the CSA relating to the operations of the Board.

The Adviser role is to facilitate the administrative coordination and scheduling of all people, processes and systems that will ensure the objectives of the Boards proceedings are maintained to a high standard, pursuant to statutory obligations.
The key responsibilities of an Adviser are:
- Undertake specific administration activities regarding Board hearings, prisoner application files, correspondence and dependent activities using recommended offender management systems in line with the Boards objectives and statutory and procedural timeframes;
- Liaise with relevant government departments, external bodies, service providers, as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective implementationof Board decisions;
- Review Board administration activities in teams on an ongoing basis and adjust for contingencies to maintain the Boards objectives and requirements;
- Within given research goals, assist in the conduct of research on issues associated with prisoner parole applications including providing administrative assistance to legal officers in the collection, collation and analysis of information;
- Prepare and write reports, procedural guidelines, spreadsheets, planning documentation and other correspondence utilising a range of computer software packages;
- Undertake processes and provide advice that supports human resource management, training and development activities, ensuring adherence to relevant awards, regulations and departmental delegations, policies and procedures;
- Maintain an awareness of legislative and other parameters within which Board application processes are to be undertaken;
- Participate in the monitoring and analysis of current and emerging State and National policies, trends and initiatives, and research within the criminal justice sector in order to identify implications for the Board;
- Advise community corrections and custodial operations of Board outcomes, requests and recommendations within legislative and procedural timeframes;
- Liaise with Board Members and Secretariat staff to develop Parole Board meeting rosters pursuant to legislative requirements as required;
- Undertake financial and human resource processing duties for Board members as required;
- Coordinate Board proceedings relevant to the scheduling of hearings, including setting agendas, prisoner teleconferencing, compiling and circulating Board files, minuting Board hearings and initiating action to effect arising decisions and actions;
- Ensure accuracy in the reflection of Board considerations, outcomes in correspondence and minutes and that all written communication is of a high standard that complies with legislative and procedural requirements; and
- Provide subject matter advice and assistance to Board members and Secretariat staff.
