Principal Policy and Governance Officer

The Principal Policy and Governance Officer will assist the Health Ombudsman by undertaking research and analysis for key stakeholders (including the Health Ombudsman and the Executive Leadership Committee), facilitating the provision of information to key stakeholders (particularly the Minister and the Parliamentary Committee), managing the administration of the policy management framework, and leading the review of information sharing agreements.

The role is also responsible for implementing outcomes from business improvement projects, developing and evaluating training content on strategic policy issues and other duties as required by the supervisor or Health Ombudsman.

In this role you will:

  • Manage and provide high-level executive support and coordinate information, strategic advice, analysis, and information, to the Health Ombudsman and the Executive Leadership Committee (ELC) on complex and diverse health, regulatory and management issues.
  • Prepare responses to requests from the Health Minister and Parliamentary Committee, as well as other relevant correspondence for consideration by the Health Ombudsman.
  • Prepare and coordinate submissions to external stakeholders in response to consultations and data requests across areas including proposed changes to legislation, standards, codes or guidelines in the health care sector or regulatory landscape.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of authoritative reports, audits, documents, presentations, executive briefs, and correspondence to support ELC decision making.
  • Liaise with the Minister's office, the Parliamentary Committee, the Department of Health, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, registration boards and other bodies as required.
  • Form and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships and networks to facilitate the appropriate sharing of information to enhance service delivery.
