The Program Engagement Officer provides offence-focused programming and support to young people involved in the Youth Justice system.

The role is responsible for ensuring that programming is evidence-based and delivered in a way that aligns with the Risk, Needs and Responsivity framework. In achieving this, the Program Engagement Officer is expected to: deliver programs to young people and also support the broader team through professional development and coaching related to program delivery.

As Program Engagement Officer, you will specifically:

  • Foster an inclusive culture by demonstrating or developing cultural capability, aligning with the Human Rights Act 2019, and supporting programs that preserve
    cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Collaborate within a statutory environment to plan, deliver, and support evidencebased youth justice and restorative justice programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Train, mentor, and support youth workers, focusing on professional development in areas such as client engagement, safety, behaviour management, and self-care.
  • Develop, adapt, and deliver change-oriented programs (e.g., CHART) through activity-based engagement.
  • Coordinate Youth Worker duties, timetables, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety standards and manage personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct risk assessments for program designs and maintain relationships with community service agencies.
  • Oversee safety inductions for young people accessing supervision and program services.
  • Provide supervision and direct care to young people in line with legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate data and client records to meet statutory and operational requirements.
  • Promote culturally sensitive communication and practices, recognising the impacts of historical policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
