The QIS team is a business unit within the Supreme District and Land Courts Service (SDLCS). The SDLCS sits within the Courts and Tribunals Division of Department of Justice and provides administrative support and registry services to the judiciary and court users in Queensland.

The Role:

The QIS includes professional officers, known as intermediaries, who carry out legislated functions including to assess and report on a witness' communication needs, making recommendations to the police and/or the courts on how best to communicate with a witness. Intermediaries are impartial professionals with allied health qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, or speech pathology who then undertake specific training to gain appointment to the panel of intermediaries set out in the Evidence Act 1977. Inhouse intermediaries promote the QIS and guide a panel of contract intermediaries who work remotely.
