Role details

The Palliative Care Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for an Advanced Health Worker (Palliative Care) to join their team on a permanent basis.

For information on how to apply and the mandatory requirements for this role, please refer to the attached Role Description.

Your opportunity

The primary purpose of the hospital based Advanced Health Worker (Palliative Care Services) role is to assist in providing culturally appropriate services by the MHHS SPCS to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples with advanced progressing life-limiting conditions. The role will function within the multi-disciplinary team to promote and deliver efficient, effective, clinically relevant, culturally safe, and appropriate patient outcomes in the specific area of Palliative Care.

About the Team

The MHHS Specialist Palliative Care Service (SPCS) aims to improve the quality of life for patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-limiting illness. The Palliative Care Model is needs based, and emphasises that the complexity of needs should not determine the setting of care. For example, patients who are identified as having complex needs can be cared for in a community setting if they have appropriate support and expertise. The model identifies that health promotion strategies can be used to educate the public and primary health care providers of the social, psychological and spiritual impacts of living with a life limiting illness and the impact this has on the patient, family members and on the community in which they live.
