Pathology Queensland are looking for a Supervising Scientist Chemistry to join their team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. In this role you will be responsible for the supervision of the general chemistry/immunoassay and serology testing and managing of HP3 staff. You will require expert technical, scientific, operational and strategic knowledge to supervise and provide 24/7 high quality, cost effective and efficient general biochemistry/immunoassay and serology services to meet organisational objectives, client expectations and comply with NATA and ISO requirements in conjunction with the Chief Scientist.

What you'll do
- Contribute actively to the development of own chemical pathology knowledge and expertise and in the training of HP3 staff, continuing education activities, performance management, appropriate maintenance of equipment, tests performances, stock management of consumables, rostering to maintain 24/7 services
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively and promptly issues that may or will impact on services (equipment, reagent, staffing issues etc) with the HP3 team, Chief Scientist and if required clients both internal and external.
- Undertake diagnostic testing and related duties and activities in the department, and all quality duties relating to the role including document updates, appropriate use of internal quality control systems, and external quality program reviews and investigations following PQ established accredited protocols in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
- In a collaborative approach with the Chief Scientist ensure efficient discipline strategies are implemented and maintained with improve safety and quality of services in accordance with direction from the Chemical Pathology Discipline Working Party (DWP) for the laboratory to maintain corporate compliance to all procedures and policies issued by the discipline and Pathology QLD.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- A Bachelor of Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent from a recognised university or tertiary institution that includes units applicable to medical laboratory chemistry testing.
- Demonstrated high level of technical, scientific knowledge and expertise in general chemistry and immunoassay testing.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, provide expert scientific advice with the provision of results to laboratory staff and clients, including training/mentoring of scientific and technical staff, in evaluation and validation of methodologies and verification of new equipment.
- Demonstrated advanced communication and leaderships skills and commitment to maintaining a positive, equitable environment and competent work team.
- Demonstrated knowledge, application, compliance and experience with quality management, current regulatory standards required by Pathology Queensland, NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
