About the Team

The Medical Workforce & Education Service (MWES) at CHQ leads the coordination and delivery of medical education, training, and professional development for junior doctors and paediatric trainees. Our team collaborates with clinical departments, supervisors, and external partners to provide high-quality education programs, orientation, and ongoing support to medical staff. 

About the Role

Leadership & Governance:

  • Provide senior leadership and advocacy for high-quality contemporary paediatric physician training
  • Offer expert advice, reports, and recommendations to governance committees
  • Drive the strategic direction of the Basic Training Program and the Medical Education Unit
  • Build training capacity and the educational profile of CHQ, including seeking funding and teaching resources

Basic Training Program Management:

  • Plan, implement, and manage the RACP-compliant Basic Training Program at CHQ
  • Oversee accreditation, rotations, and secondment sites, ensuring quality training opportunities
  • Manage trainee rostering and allocation to meet training requirements
  • Engage and collaborate with senior medical staff in curriculum development and delivery
  • Oversee the trainee assessment process, ensuring robust feedback and reporting
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and initiate quality improvements

Supervisor Development & Support:

  • Select, orientate, and induct new supervisors in accordance with RACP processes
  • Facilitate professional development for supervisors to strengthen their skills and feedback processes
  • Ensure adequate clinical supervision and support the ongoing development of educators

Trainee Support & Advocacy:

  • Monitor, advise, and support prospective and current Basic Trainees throughout their training, including selection and progress
  • Promote a supportive learning culture, optimising workload and acting on risks to trainees/patients
  • Provide feedback and strategies for improvement to individual trainees
  • Assist supervisors in managing trainees in difficulty and facilitate resolution of relationship issues
  • Coordinate trainee examination preparation (e.g., trial exams, case sessions) and review results
  • Undertake necessary trainee administration (registration, exam applications)
  • Escalate and collaborate with HR / Deputy Director Medical Services on serious clinical or conduct concerns
