Townsville State High School Special Education Program is seeking a dedicated Teacher Aide to join our inclusive education team, supporting students with disability in Years 7 to 12.

This position involves working within general classroom environments to assist students with diverse learning needs.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a proactive and collaborative approach to supporting classroom activities and student wellbeing. Training will be provided as required.

This position is being offered in a Permanent Part-Time capacity (0.79FTE), 60 hours per fortnight.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

As a teacher aide within this program you will be working with students from year 7 to year 12. The role is to work collaboratively under the direction and guidance of the HOSES for Diversity and Inclusion, SEP teachers (case managers) and classroom teachers to support students with disabilities in the school.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering focused or intensive small-group support in literacy and numeracy.
  • Providing general supervision, undertaking faculty and administrative duties,
  • Participating in co-curricular activities

The Perfect Fit:

Applicants who possess the following skills will make the strongest candidates:

  • High level of interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive relationships with students, staff and the school community
  • Ability to follow directions and guidelines outlined by HOSES, SEP teachers and classroom teachers and report any concerns directly to the class teacher or case manager
  • Ability to communicate effectively to instruct small groups or individual students under the direction of teachers and/or therapists (includes within class, playground, sporting activities, excursions, supporting and supervising eating.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of disabilities is an advantage
  • Adaptability to cater for a diverse range of student needs, displaying patience, understanding, tact and sensitivity to students and families
  • Ability to ensure all aspects of Individual Behaviour plans, Medical/Health plans and Risk Management plans are implemented with the focus on developing a positive environment
  • Ability to maintain student and school confidentiality
  • Holding or working towards a Certificate IV in Education Support (or equivalent), or demonstrating a willingness to obtain this qualification, will be an advantage.
