Ranger Opportunity: AO5 Capital Works & Asset Management (Northern Region)
Location: Northern Region, QLD | Work Type: Full-time, Temporary
Want to lead projects that actually mean something?
Tired of building things no one ever sees? Imagine managing projects that help protect rainforests, improve access to waterfalls, and support conservation efforts across some of Queensland's most breathtaking landscapes.
We're on the lookout for a hands-on, motivated Ranger - Capital Works & Asset Management to join our Northern Region team. This is your chance to combine project management with purpose — and we guarantee your “office” views will be hard to beat.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you'll take charge of capital works and asset initiatives across Queensland's iconic national parks, forests, and reserves. It's part project leader, part problem-solver, part nature-lover — and all impact.
You'll:
• Lead the Northern Region Construction Team, overseeing daily operations and bringing infrastructure to life in wild and remote places.
• Manage full project lifecycles — from early ideas through to opening the gates (literally) on new facilities and upgrades.
• Coordinate complex procurement and manage contracts with engineers, architects, and trades.
• Track budgets, report on progress, and make sure everything stays on schedule and on spec.
• Support the team with asset management systems, tech tools, and good old-fashioned know-how.
• Write up clear project briefs and provide solid technical advice across the region.
Every day is different — some days you'll be planning and problem-solving, others you'll be getting your boots dirty in the field.
What You'll Bring
This role is perfect for someone who's:
• Experienced in project management and/or the construction industry, especially in regional or government settings.
• A confident communicator and team leader who can juggle tasks, timelines, and personalities.
• Detail-driven but flexible — you know how to keep things on track while adapting to changing priorities.
• Comfortable with data, devices, and systems that support asset management (or keen to learn fast).
• Ready to work in unique environments with a strong sense of purpose and community.
Why Join Us?
At Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, we're not just ticking boxes — we're protecting what matters. From lush rainforests to remote islands, your work will help keep these spaces safe, accessible, and sustainable for generations to come. Rangers are the heart of what we do. While your focus will be capital works and asset management, you'll be part of a broader team contributing to areas like:
• Fire and Pest Management
• Visitor Experiences
• Estate Maintenance
• Safety and Conservation
And trust us — no two days are ever the same.
The Legal Stuff (But Still Important!)
You'll be working under legislation like:
• Nature Conservation Act 1992
• Forestry Act 1959
• Marine Parks Act 2004
• …and more.
You don't need to know them by heart now — just be ready to learn and apply them as part of your work.
Ready for the Adventure?
If you want a job that blends challenge, leadership, variety, and impact, this is it.
You'll build real infrastructure that supports real outcomes — and have some pretty amazing stories to tell along the way.
