We are seeking an experienced Legal Officer to join the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA). This role is required to contribute to the achievement of the RTA strategic objectives through provision of timely legal and legislative advice and consultancy services.

This position is a fixed-term, full-time role until 16 October 2026 and is located in the Brisbane CBD with generous flexible working arrangements. This position may be offered as a part-time role (minimum of 2-3 days per week) for the right candidate.

The role of the Legal Officer is to provide high level quality legal advice and assist the team to provide legal opinion to the Chief Executive, the RTA Board, executive management and employees across a wide range of legal matters.

To be successful you will need:

  • The ability to understand and apply relevant laws, especially those affecting the RTA and prepare considered research memorandums
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting legal documents and explaining complex ideas clearly
  • An ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support legal outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience managing legal records and handling multiple tasks efficiently and accurately
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to inclusive, respectful and safe workplace practices
  • A law degree is desirable, but not essential. Candidates with relevant experience and professional development will also be considered.
