As the Public Health Officer, you will coordinate, implement and evaluate a range of Culturally appropriate public health interventions across CQHHS and CWHHS, to protect and promote health and prevent illness among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, with a specific focus on disease prevention and control, and vaccination and other program areas.

About us:

The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Services (CQHHS) Public Health Unit (CQPHU) is responsible for maintaining preventative population health strategies within the Central Queensland and Central West regions.

Central Queensland Public Health Unit consists of a multi-disciplinary team of staff including Public Health Physicians, Public Health Nurses, Environmental Health officers, Epidemiologists, Data Officer and business services staff, including some with region wide roles. CQPHU covers both Central Queensland and Central West Hospital and Health Services (CWHHS).

About the role:

This role will be vital in providing culturally appropriate frontline Public Health interventions, including communicable disease support and response to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities within CQHHS and CWHHS. This will include effective and timely delivery of Chief Health Officer Directives, education, relevant policy and information sharing to best protect the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This position will work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing Directorate. The Directorate is an essential element of the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS), with the purpose of identifying emerging health issues, and capturing the perceptions of consumers and community members health needs and priorities to progress an equitable culturally responsive health service.

About you:

The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree qualification in Public Health (or equivalent).

  • Experience in Public Health program areas such as Immunisation and Health Promotion as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $132,567 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $43.68 - $58.59 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
