Principal Regulatory Officer
Water Supply Regulation; Regulation and Operational Support; Water Resource Management; Flexible Locations Will be Considered
Operating from within Water Supply Regulation, you will lead a small team in the regulation of service providers to assure drinking and recycled water quality and the regulation of service performance.
The Water Supply Regulation team is responsible for all aspects of regulatory oversight in Queensland from the development and implementation of support programs to undertaking formal compliance activities under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008.

The Role
You will lead a team that exercises regulatory powers, collect evidence, conduct site inspections safely and take appropriate risk-based compliance and enforcement action. This will lead to implementing compliance responses within the regulatory framework, applying appropriate investigation methods, procedures and tools to ensure consistency in approach.
Key Accountabilities:
• Oversee engagement with regulated entities to encourage their compliance with the regulatory framework and to resolve non-compliances in a timely manner.
• Oversee resolution of complex drinking water and recycled water quality incidents, in conjunction with other government agencies.
• Research, investigate and analyse complex matters associated with the regulation of drinking water and recycled water.
• Guide and train staff to ensure consistent application of work systems, regulatory processes and procedures and oversee development of new systems as required.
• Prepare high quality correspondence, briefs, submissions, reports, statutory notices and compliance reviews with the ability to clarify complex matters.
• Promote protection of public health in Queensland water supplies through the development of sound relationships with regulated entities, including visiting regulated entities in regional and remote areas to provide regulatory support and advice. Please note, travel is required as part of the role.
• Lead key stakeholder engagement activities including interagency meetings, workshops, and working groups.
• Lead the development and review of technical and regulation documents that complement existing, new or amended legislation.
About You
• There are no mandatory requirements for this role, however, a tertiary degree in science or engineering as well leading regulatory teams would be highly regarded.
