We are looking for a database guru to deliver best practice application database support for our business unit, Information and Technology Partners (ITP). The position of Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our databases and provide input into effort estimates for enhancement and development work.

ITP is hosted by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and delivers information technology and information management services to 7 government agencies. Our purpose is to provide effective and innovative services as a trusted, strategic partner distributing smart, secure and seamless solutions. The opportunity

As our Database Administrator, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our databases while contributing to exciting operational programs and projects that make a real difference. You'll work with a passionate team to design, upgrade, and maintain databases, troubleshoot issues, and deliver best-practice solutions.

You will also be responsible to:

  • Apply problem-solving strategies to conduct root cause analyses and identify, evaluate, and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate and innovate closely with stakeholders to create practical solutions that balance performance, security, scalability, and cost.
  • Deploy changes to production applications from written and automated deployment plans, adhering to change management processes.
  • Keep up with emerging ICT technologies to meet evolving organisational needs.
  • Contribute to culture and be part of a team that values equity, diversity, and innovation while fostering a positive workplace environment.

What we are looking for (qualifications, registrations, experience)

  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of contemporary digital / information technology concepts and service delivery relevant to a large, complex public sector or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Presents technical information and risks in plain language
  • Ability to solve problems effectively within an application support environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in administering application databases, utilising PostgreSQL and its standard utilities, and authoring and maintaining Linux/Solaris scripts (ksh),
  • Familiarity with tools like vi, scp, ssh, grep, awk, sed, PuTTY, and PowerShell scripting is desired.
  • Experience with MS SQL Server, SVN/GIT version control systems, and Agile/DevSecOps methodologies would be an advantage.
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in Australia.
