2 x OO6 Ranger in Charge (Lake Eacham or Tinaroo)
Department of Environment and Science - Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS&P)
Location: Lake Eacham and/or Tinaroo, Queensland
Classification: 2 x OO6 Ranger in Charge
Position Type: Permanent Full-Time
Ready to swap the office for the great outdoors? Join the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service as a Ranger in Charge and lead the charge in protecting Queensland's most spectacular landscapes! From crystal-clear crater lakes and lush rainforests to rugged ranges and remote campsites, you'll play a vital role in conserving our state's incredible natural and cultural treasures.
About the Role:
As a Ranger in Charge, you'll be more than a leader—you'll be a mentor, planner, problem-solver and conservation champion. You'll guide a passionate team of Rangers who work to keep Queensland's national parks, forests, and reserves safe, healthy, and accessible for everyone.
You'll help deliver outcomes in fire, pest, estate, visitor and asset management, ensuring these breathtaking places remain protected and thriving. One day you might be planning a controlled burn or repairing a boardwalk: the next, meeting with community groups, local volunteers or First Nations partners to protect cultural heritage and biodiversity.
Every day brings something new—and the satisfaction that your work is making a real difference to Queensland's environment and its people.
Lake Eacham Management Unit:
Imagine leading a team of six skilled Rangers across 21 stunning estates—from misty rainforests to tranquil lakes and hiking trails buzzing with visitors. Based in the scenic Southern Tablelands, you'll be hands-on in:
• Leading fire, pest, and asset management programs that protect nature and enhance visitor experiences.
• Maintaining park infrastructure to keep it safe, sustainable, and beautiful.
• Working closely with First Nations partners and local conservation groups to care for Country.
• Managing projects, reporting, and compliance with a focus on environmental protection and community engagement.
• Inspiring your team while balancing the best of fieldwork and leadership.
It's a role that combines boots-on-ground adventure with big-picture impact—perfect for someone who leads by example and thrives outdoors.
Tinaroo Management Unit:
Prefer something a little more rugged? At Tinaroo, you'll oversee a spectacular patchwork of landscapes—from Danbulla National Park's towering forests to peaceful campsites and lakeside day-use areas. You'll get to:
• Lead operations and guide a dedicated Ranger team across diverse estates.
• Build, maintain, and enhance visitor facilities that bring people closer to nature.
• Coordinate fire and pest management to protect vital ecosystems.
• Engage directly with visitors, community groups, and First Nations corporations to promote safe and respectful use of parklands.
• Work in challenging, rewarding environments—remote areas, steep terrain, and ever-changing weather—where every day tests your skills and stamina.
This is the perfect role for someone who's fit, adaptable, and passionate about hands-on conservation work in wild, beautiful places.
About You:
You're an enthusiastic, experienced leader who loves the bush, teamwork, and getting your hands dirty (literally). You'll bring:
• Experience in land or park management.
A strong safety focus and a knack for planning and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate a team.
• Competence with computers for reporting and data management.
• Confidence operating and maintaining a variety of plant and equipment.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
