Your Opportunity

As the Lecturer, Civil Engineeringyou will be responsible for:

  •  Influencing the careers of future industry persons by sharing your extensive industry knowledge to students in a classroom or other educational setting.
  • Delivery of units in structural design, modelling and the capstone project unit.

The position is based at our South Bank campus and within the Civil Engineering team reporting to the Operations Manager, Higher Education. 

The opporutnity is flexible and can be undertaken as either temporary or casual for the right candidate, commencing from early January to 15 May 2026 unless otherwise determined.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make contributions to the teaching effort of TAFE Queensland at an undergraduate level.
  • Carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline and to learning and teaching.
  • Ensure compliance with TAFE Queensland systems and processes to document, evidence and report scholarly activity within expected timeframes.
  • Develop course material and support the overall coordination of the course, as required.
  • Initiate informal and formal interactions with students and staff across the Campus and externally with other institutions, industrial and professional groups, and community/individual organisations. Formal interactions are those which are commercial in nature and must be sanctioned by the relevant Dean/Manager as appropriate.
  • Support, prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or studio sessions.
  • Deliver lectures and undertake marking and assessment.
  • Consult with students and supervise post-graduate students where such qualifications are offered.
  • Perform assigned teaching and learning duties on or off campus, including conducting research and a range of administrative functions which relate to the discipline/courses in which the Lecturer is teaching.
  • Attend and contribute to organisational unit and broader meetings and/or participate as a member in a few relevant committees.
  • Contribute to/or coordinate education-focused projects that support TAFE Queensland’s continuing status as a Higher Education provider.
  • Attend activities which support student recruitment.
  • Undertake other activities, projects and tasks as directed.

  2. The ability to provide high quality course delivery within an applied learning environment, in accordance with Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) standards, with a demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding client service.
  3. Demonstrated record of achievement as a practitioner with a reputation for skills, knowledge and expertise.
  4. Superior written and oral communication, influencing and listening skills.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and sustain productive internal and external stakeholder relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • The ability to contribute to the development of innovative learning and teaching within an applied learning environment and encouraging students to apply that learning in industry settings.
  • The ability to provide high quality course delivery within an applied learning environment, in accordance with Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) standards, with a demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding client service.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with Learning Management systems in a tertiary setting
  • Knowledge and experience in geographic information systems (GIS)
