Senior Innovation Advisor

In this role you will play a pivotal part in driving and supporting innovation initiatives within the NIISQ Agency (the Agency). This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams applying creative problem-solving approaches, fostering innovation mindsets and leveraging agile methodologies to deliver impact.
As a Senior Innovation Advisor in the innovation team, you will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to identify opportunities, implement solutions and contribute to a culture of innovation.
Your role will contribute to positive outcome for the National Injury Insurance Agency, Queensland (NIISQ Agency), Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) and Nominal Defendant (ND) (collectively referred to as the Motor Accident Insurance Schemes Queensland or MAIS-Q).

Your Opportunity
You will actively participate in the entire innovation process, from idea generation, review of emerging technologies and trends, promoting a culture of experimentation, and continuous improvement activities.
Your role
- Participate in the design, development and implementation of innovation experiments, encourage creative thinking, and assist teams to contribute ideas that align with the Agency's strategic innovation goals.
- Assist in preparing business cases which define benefits, outline the value proposition, potential risks and strategic alignment of proposed innovation projects
- Apply Agile methodologies to project activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement and iterative delivery.
- Maintain effective stakeholder relationships. Develop and maintain communication channels with identified stakeholder groups. Facilitate open communication and discussion between project stakeholders. Be confident in working within a cross-functional team environment.
- Contribute to innovation in relation to strategic goals and objectives across the Agency to improve outcomes for participants and claimants in a complex environment. Work effectively in a lean work environment of experiment, learn, build, and deliver and iterative improvement and actively contribute to our continuous improvement processes.
- Collaborate with the Project Management Office (PMO) and technical team to ensure that innovative solutions align with user needs and expectations. Prioritise human centred design principles by co-designing with end-users and involving them in the innovation process. Use techniques like design thinking to ensure innovations resonate with the target audience
- Partner with the business in a consultancy role to support delivery of innovation solutions.
- Undertake market research and environment scans, identifying strengths, opportunities, and innovation to assist in informing solutions and potential procurement strategies. Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends and disruptions that could be applied to address business challenges or create new opportunities.
About you
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate a strong commitment to shared values, and a broad skillset that includes:
- Demonstrated experience in supporting innovation initiatives and delivering projects in a cross functional team environment.
- Knowledge of innovation project management methodologies (eg: Agile, Scrum) and experience in applying them to manage projects and deliver outcomes.
- Familiarity with innovation methodologies, such as design thinking or human-centred design, and their application in a government or organisational context.
- Highly developed communication and negotiation skills. Approach negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues. Understand the desired business-driven objectives and associated strengths and weaknesses.
- High level interpersonal skills as demonstrated by successful outcomes in the areas of presentation, facilitation consultation, negotiation and change management including presentation,.
- Proficiency in Agile project management tools, such as Jira, Confluence, Figma, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, process mapping and ability to lead small scale projects.
