Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a OO6 Ranger in Charge (Rosslyn Bay) to join the team on a Permanent basis.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to take on the role of Ranger in Charge within the Capricorn Coast Management Unit. As an integral member of the leadership team, you will supervise operational rangers and coordinate the delivery of annual work programs. The role oversees day-to-day marine park management, including fire, pest and safety management, compliance with partner agencies, and the maintenance, rehabilitation and enhancement of visitor infrastructure across marine and island protected areas.
Role focus:
• Lead and develop a high-performing team to deliver annual work programs, operational plans and key conservation projects safely, efficiently and within budget.
• Oversee park management operations, including infrastructure development and maintenance, fire and pest management, cultural and natural resource management, and plant and equipment operations.
• Build and maintain effective partnerships with Traditional Owners, community groups, industry stakeholders and other government agencies to support shared
land and sea management outcomes.
• Provide leadership in compliance, safety and emergency response, coordinating enforcement activities, incident management and contingency planning across protected areas.
• Ensure sound governance and accountability, including planning, reporting, financial oversight and fostering a culturally respectful, inclusive and values-driven workplace that supports better outcomes for First Nations peoples.
This role is based within the Mackay and Capricorn Coast area of the Southern Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and is responsible for managing Keppel Bay Islands National Park, Swains Reef National Park, Shoalwater and Broad Sound Islands National Park, and the surrounding State and Commonwealth marine parks.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• an automatic/ unrestricted manual driver's licence
There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, formal qualifications or capability to rapidly aquire such qualifications as specified below, would be highly regarded:
• Coxswain Grade1 Near Coastal or higher
• Rescue diver or higher
• Senior First Aid certificate
• Advanced Resuscitation
• Statement of attainment in Government Investigations
• Wildfire Suppression and Prescribed Burning Crew Leader or higher
• Unrestricted Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate
• Chainsaw operator's accreditation (Level 1 & 2)
• MR or HR Heavy vehicle license
• Operation of specialized equipment such as side by side, Tractors, Forklift, Positrack and mini excavator.
