About the role

As a Senior Lawyer (Farm Debt and Rural Services) with Legal Aid Queensland, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-level legal advice and representation to vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders, particularly primary producers and rural small business operators in rural and remote areas. You will deliver expert guidance on credit and debt issues, represent clients in complex consumer law matters—including credit and insurance law—and advocate for fair outcomes through negotiation, mediation, and court representation. Additionally, you will collaborate with community groups and stakeholders to enhance service delivery, promote awareness of Legal Aid Queensland's services, and support professional development by mentoring and guiding other lawyers. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working on challenging and rewarding cases that contribute to social justice and improved access to legal support for rural communities.

About you

We're seeking a legal professional with:

  • Extensive experience in commercial and consumer law, particularly in credit and debt issues for rural clients.
  • A strong understanding of insurance law and legislation relevant to primary producers and small businesses.
  • Proven ability to represent clients in complex legal matters and conduct commercial negotiations and mediations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients with complex needs.
  • A commitment to trauma-informed practice and a passion for supporting Queensland's rural communities.
