The Jaghu Maternal and Infant Program provides a culturally safe and responsive model of care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, their families and the community. The program provides continuity of care from conception until baby is around 2 years of age and includes care by a Midwife, Child Health Nurse, Aboriginal health Worker, Social and Emotional Wellbeing Officer and Social Worker, depending on the individual needs of the woman and her family.

About the role
The Clinical Midwife- Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) (Identified) for Jaghu Maternal and Infant program will provide care and support clinicians to provide, woman-centred, family-oriented, evidence-based and contemporary child health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, jarjums and their families.
The role has responsibility for working in partnership with cultural leaders to ensure integration of all planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of culturally safe midwifery services across the perinatal continuum. The Clinical Midwife will also develop and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with community based and hospital clinicians and health services to enhance support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- High-level experience in delivering advanced level clinical expertise, knowledge and leadership in the area of midwifery care.
- Experience promoting clinical and professional standards through the application of relevant legislation and frameworks which support best practice, contribute to service improvement and minimise risk.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including skill in general computer software applications.
- Evidence of evolving leadership and management skills including respectful and professional challenging of behaviour and attitude and application of conflict resolution skills.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- To perform this role, it essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 the applications are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who:
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Islander person; and
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Islander descent; and
- is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
