We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Department - Teaching and Learning to lead our academic team and drive excellence in teaching practices at Burpengary State Secondary College.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

As the Head of Department, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the school's curriculum delivery and pedagogy, ensuring that high-quality teaching practices are embedded across all year levels. You will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated teachers, providing strategic direction and support to ensure the continuous development of innovative, inclusive, and evidence-based teaching practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating ongoing professional learning opportunities for staff, promoting collaboration, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in pedagogy.
  • Building capability in all staff aligned with evidence-based effective classroom management practices
  • Supporting the professional growth of teachers, including mentoring and coaching new and beginning educators.
  • Coordinating and overseeing moderation processes to ensure consistent and fair assessment practices across the school.
  • Driving the implementation of best-practice literacy strategies, particularly in the teaching of reading, across all year levels.
  • Working closely with school leadership and staff to analyse student data, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance student outcomes.
  • Contributing to school-wide initiatives aimed at improving engagement and learning outcomes for all students.

The ideal candidate will have a strong, proven track record of leadership in all aspects of teaching and learning, with a deep understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy, and the ability to drive positive change in educational practices.

A passion for fostering an inclusive, student-centred learning environment, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, is essential.
