About the work unit / facility

The Cardiology Unit at Townsville University Hospital is the tertiary cardiac referral centre for North Queensland. It provides comprehensive cardiac services including cardiac catheterisation, investigations, inpatient care, coronary care, chest pain assessment, heart failure services, and outreach clinics. As part of the Surgical Service Group, the unit delivers advanced clinical care and supports education and research initiatives.

Competitive salary and benefits

  • Salary between $8062.00–$10221.70 per fortnight (L18-L27).
  • 4 to 6 weeks p.a. recreational leave with 14-17.5% loading.
  • Generous employer contribution to superannuation of 12.75%.

About your opportunity

As Clinical Director Cardiology, you will lead and manage the Cardiology Department, ensuring high-quality clinical care, workforce management, and service development. You will drive education, research, and governance initiatives, supporting optimal patient outcomes and professional growth within a dynamic tertiary referral environment.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent).
  • Electrophysiology and pacing training consistent with Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand guidelines AND/OR Advanced clinical experience in Cardiology, expertise in echocardiography including transthoracic echo, Transesophageal echo, Stress echocardiography and 3D Echocardiography.
  • Participation in on-call roster and outreach services (including travel by light aircraft).
  • Proof of qualifications and registration with the appropriate authority.
  • Evidence of vaccination against VPDs as per Queensland Health policy.
  • A probationary period may apply.
