Operating from within the Spatial & Data Services team you will lead the delivery of the Bulk Watercourse Determination project. This project will develop a methodology to use spatial analysis to classify unmapped features on the Watercourse Identification Map (WIM). You will work with a regional reference group to establish criteria for the classification of WIM features. You will leverage your spatial expertise to access relevant datasets and develop analysis methodologies and batch processing workflows to assign these classifications.
You will work closely with the Spatial Services, Remote Sensing and Data Services teams to access datasets and build automated workflows.

As a Senior Spatial Information Officer delivering on the Bulk Watercourse Determination project, you will take the technical lead for bulk processing of
Queensland's Watercourse Identification Map data. Key duties and accountabilities for this role include:
• Lead the design, development and implementation of batch processing workflows to classify watercourse features using spatial analysis based on regulatory and environmental criteria (the Bulk Watercourse Determination Project).
• Source appropriate data sets (e.g., rainfall, flow, slope, soil type, pre-clearing vegetation mapping) and establish workflows for implementing data and adjusting attribute weightings.
• Collaborate with working group to align data inputs, deliverables and project processes with agency requirements and agreed group expectations.
• Validate, interpret and analyse spatial data outputs to ensure accuracy, reliability and suitability, and provide informed advice to support effective decision-making.
• Undertake iterative testing to refine processes and outputs, ensuring strong alignment and consistency with established datasets.
• Provide specialist advice and support to departmental officers and customers in the field of technology associated with mapping, GIS, remote sensing and associated products and services.
• Maintain knowledge of technologies and business processes to provide management with analysis of alternatives and recommendations for the implementation or changes to activities and procedures.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, guidelines and procedures relating to the management and delivery of the Bulk Watercourse Determinations project.
• Liaise and negotiate with Departmental staff, other Government Departments and private organisations on Departmental policies and procedures relating to the capture, supply and use of the Department's data products.
• Other duties as directed and required.
About you:
• The applicant will require a bachelor's degree in Spatial Science, Natural Resource Management or other relevant discipline.
• The applicant must have demonstrated experience and expertise in the use of ESRI's ArcGIS Pro or similar spatial software.
• The applicant must have demonstrated experience implementing batch processing workflows and leading spatial analysis projects such as remote sensing analysis, geometric alignment of spatial datasets, network analysis or hydrologic analysis.
