The Queensland Government established the Commission of Inquiry into the Child Safety System (Commission) to undertake an independent, comprehensive examination of the child safety system in Queensland, with a focus on decision-making, governance, oversight, and systemic issues impacting the safety and well-being of children.
As Principal Investigations Officer you will analyse submissions and other materials pertaining to the child safety system in Queensland. You will use your high level interview skills to professionally and sensitively obtain accurate witness statements, taking a victim centred, trauma informed approach, and make recommendations to the Manager and Director on courses of action to ensure investigative rigour and depth.

The Queensland Government established the Commission of Inquiry into the Child Safety System (Commission) to undertake an independent, comprehensive examination of the child safety system in Queensland, with a focus on decision-making, governance, oversight, and systemic issues impacting the safety and wellbeing of children.
As Principal Investigations Officer you will:
- Analyse submissions and other materials pertaining to the child safety system in Queensland.
- Review incoming materials to determine appropriate action (and potential referrals) with consideration to the seriousness and pertinence to the work of the Commission.
- Undertake investigative research, analysis, review and evaluation.
- Make recommendations to the Manager and Director on courses of action to ensure investigative rigour and depth.
- Conduct interviews to prepare outlines of evidence.
- Prepare notices to produce and other documentation as required under the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1950 (QId)
- Contribute to a team of investigators in the provision of accurate and timely investigation advice in a complex, fast-paced work environment, with high volume, sensitive subject matter.
- Liaise closely with internal legal practitioners, policy officers and other Commission officers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the delivery of public hearings involving multiple government and non-government agencies, external stakeholders and witnesses.
