Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a AO6 Senior Project Officer to join the team on a Permanent basis.

As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.

This role is responsible for coordinating and delivering major capital works and natural resource management projects across the Northern Area of the Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region. It oversees planning, implementation and reporting for activities on QPWS&P-managed islands and marine areas, working closely with operational rangers to support infrastructure, facilities and ecosystem restoration outcomes. The position engages extensively with Traditional Owners, government agencies and local councils, ensuring strong partnerships and effective governance. It manages budgets, contractual obligations and project communications, while also providing essential support to executive managers and regional staff in guiding operational decisions and developing ongoing works programs.

Role focus:
• Lead and deliver complex, multi-year priority projects in marine and island environments, including high-value budgeting, procurement, contractor management and on-ground works.
• Consult, negotiate and coordinate with First Nations communities, stakeholders and government agencies, preparing required reports, approvals documentation and advice to ensure legislative, safety and environmental compliance.
• Provide authoritative, culturally informed and expert advice on legislation, departmental policy and operational processes to support effective regional project planning and implementation.
• Oversee and prioritise project teams and workflows to achieve timely outcomes, support safe and inclusive workplace practices, and guide senior managers on regional operational matters.

This position is based in Cairns or Townsville and may require travel to other locations from time to time, including overnight stays.

To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• an automatic/ unrestricted manual driver's licence.

There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, formal qualifications in Project Management would be highly regarded.
