As Director of Public Health, you'll champion evidence-informed strategy, emergency preparedness, surveillance, environmental health and prevention initiatives that protect and promote the health of Central Queensland communities. You'll work closely with government, local organisations and clinical services to build capability, reduce risk and advance equity. About us:
The Central Queensland Public Health Unit supports the health and wellbeing of populations across Central Queensland and the Central West. Our multidisciplinary team delivers communicable disease control, environmental health regulation, immunisation advice, epidemiology, health promotion, clinical trials and research.
About the role:
- Lead strategic and operational public health functions across Central Queensland and Central West.
- Oversee disease control, environmental health, immunisation advice and surveillance.
- Strengthen governance, business continuity, quality systems and risk management.
- Guide research, clinical trials, grant activity and evidence translation.
- Build stakeholder relationships that support effective public health action.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams, financial performance and resources.
About you:
- You hold the relevant qualifications and registration to be appointed as one of the following:
- Nurse: Hold a tertiary degree such as a Bachelor of Nursing and current AHPRA registration.
- Public Health Physician: Hold a degree in medicine (MBBS, MD or equivalent) with post graduate qualfications in Public Health or Epidemiology and registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in Public Health Medicine (Applicants awaiting conferral of qualifications and specialist registration will be considered for this role.)
- Health Practitioner:
- Registration as a Health Practitioner with AHPRA, or
- Qualification as an Environmental Health Officer recognised by Environmental Health Australia, or as an Epidemiologist and
- Postgraduate research qualifications
- You are an experienced public health professional with leadership capability aligned to your employment stream.

What we offer:
- Nurse: Total remuneration value of up to $219,034 p.a comprised of a salary of $191,973 p.a., 12.75% super and 17.5% leave loading.
- Health Practitioner: Total remuneration value of up to $225,004 p.a. comprised of a salary between $184,018 - $197,206 p.a., 12.75% super and 17.5% leave loading.
- Public Health Physician: Total remuneration value of up to $481,985 p.a. (L27) comprised of a salary between $216,643 - $274,678 p.a. and:
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
- Professional Development Leave – 3.6 weeks p.a.
- Professional Development Allowance - $21,500 p.a.
- Motor vehicle allowance
- Over-time and on-call allowances
- Attraction and retention incentive allowance
- Clinical manager allowance
