About the work unit / facility
The Rehabilitation Services within the Mental Health Service Group (MHSG) deliver recovery-focused care for consumers with complex mental health needs. This includes the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) at Townsville University Hospital, providing a safe and structured environment for rehabilitation, and other programs supporting community reintegration.

Competitive salary and benefits
- Salary between $8062.00 – $10221.70 per fortnight (L18–L27).
- 4 to 6 weeks p.a. recreational leave with 14-17.5% loading.
- Generous employer contribution to superannuation of 12.75%.

About your opportunity
As a Staff Specialist (Consultant Psychiatrist), you will lead and manage the provision of psychiatric services within the Rehabilitation Services program area. This includes delivering high-quality clinical care, guiding multidisciplinary teams, contributing to research and teaching, and supporting recovery-focused care for consumers with complex needs in secure and community settings.
Requirements
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- Qualifications in Psychiatry, recognised by the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and current registration with/or eligibility for registration as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Ongoing professional development relevant to the delivery of specialist Mental Health Services to maintain appropriate registration and/or association requirements is a requirement of all staff within the MHSG.
- Eligibility for registration as a specialist medical practitioner in Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in psychiatric practice and clinical leadership.
- Commitment to quality improvement, research, and teaching.
- Vaccination requirements as per Queensland Health policy.
- A probationary period may apply.
