The Fire Safety and Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of staff, patients, visitors, and assets across the facility. This involves conducting regular patrols, both on foot and via vehicle, managing traffic in car parks, and maintaining a visible security presence. The role includes responding to emergencies such as fire alarms, duress signals, and aggressive behaviour, as well as controlling access to the hospital and assisting with fire safety inspections, equipment testing, and staff training.

About us:
Gladstone Hospital provides a range of services to Gladstone and the Banana region. A new emergency department is being built which will double the departments current capacity. Our Destination 2030: Great Care for Central Queenslanders strategy1 will see Gladstone Hospital developed as a centre for emergency care, medical inpatient and day surgery excellence. This will optimise outreach services to deliver care closer to home in the Gladstone and Banana rural communities.
About the role:
The Fire Safety and Security Officer is responsible for providing facility, building and asset security, including protecting the personal safety of patients, staff, visitors and the general public whilst on health services land. This is achieved by providing regular monitoring of the environment and emergency response services.
About you:
- Conduct both vehicle mounted and foot patrols of all internal and external areas of the Gladstone Hospital facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff, visitors and patients.
- Provide staff escorts at shift changes or as requested and maintain the functionality or service providing CCTV and its dispersal as per Operating Procedures.
- Emergency response – responding to fire protection, duress alarms, building alarm systems and calls for an emergency response as per Code Black and Red Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Act as the Helicopter Safety Officer for the arrival and departure of helicopters on site. Maintain the safety of the HLS including ‘make safe' activities to eliminate slip and trip hazards after each departure of any helicopter ensuring no slip hazards such as oil remains on the helipad.
What we offer:
- An hourly rate between $42.52 - $44.57 p.h. (Incl 25% casual loading)
