About the Role
As the Executive Director of the Grants division, you will be responsible for managing the budget and purchasing arrangements of legal services to support Legal Aid Queensland's ability to deliver services to vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders. Through the development and application of innovative strategies, you will ensure the team delivers efficient and effective services. 

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage a significant range of functions associated with managing external and inhouse legal service purchasing and supporting in-house casework costs.
  • Direct, lead and support a team of managers and Grants Officers situated throughout Queensland to ensure a shared commitment to a culture of client service, accountability and high performance.
  • Contribute to Legal Aid Queensland's strategic direction by providing advice to the CEO, Senior Executive Directors, Board and the Executive Management Team on strategies, policies and procedures for the efficient and effective purchasing of legal services by Legal Aid Queensland.
  • Lead the development of plans and strategies for Grants consistent with the organisation's strategic plan and ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Manage resource allocation against budget to ensure costs are contained within budget parameters and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly evaluate the performance of the Grants Division.
  • Develop and maintain strong and constructive networks and relationships with key stakeholders across LAQ to drive grants related business transformation to improve client and partner experiences.
  • Prepare submissions in response to complex and sensitive issues relating to Grants.
  • Resolve conflict, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Executive Directors, between Legal Aid Queensland and private suppliers in relation the grants decisions.

The experience we are looking for:

  • You have experience operating within an Executive Management Team and have a strategic mindset and the ability to identify opportunities to improve effectiveness and maintain flexibility in a changing environment.
  • You have knowledge of legal procedures and practices within Queensland and a good understanding of the financial implications of alternative internal and external service delivery funding methodologies.
  • You demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills to motivate and empower others through delegating work, mentoring, timely praise and recognition, encouraging continuous learning and regular performance reviews. You foster teamwork and resolve conflict using appropriate strategies.

Mandatory role requirements

  • It is a requirement that the successful applicant have a current Blue Card.
    Please note, whilst there are no mandatory qualifications required for this role, a qualification in a business or law related discipline is highly desirable.
