The work of the Behaviour Support and Practice Quality (BSPQ) unit is guided by the Disability Services Act 2006, the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000 and the NDIS Act 2013, and associated Rules and includes:
As a registered Behaviour Support Provider, the department develops Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) for a range of adults including those subject to the restrictive practices of containment and/or seclusion or PBSPs for adults residing in the Queensland Government’s Disability Services Accommodation Support service (DSAS).
In fulfilling these responsibilities, the unit liaises and works closely with a range of stakeholders including the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, the Office of the Public Guardian and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and the adult, their family and guardian.

Your contribution:
The PO4 Clinician has a lead role in developing Positive Behaviour Support Plans, and providing effective, contemporary and evidence-based clinical advice about positive behaviour support and restrictive practices, to support adults with a cognitive or intellectual disability improve their lives and participate more actively in their communities.
Your Responsibilities:
As a Clinician (PO4) you will:
- Develop Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSP) for adults with intellectual or cognitive impairment, including those subject to containment and seclusion.
- Maintain an active clinical case load of individuals with high and complex behaviour support needs where restrictive practices are used, including undertaking clinical assessments, and preparing submissions, plans, reports, briefs and other documentation as required.
- Improve the quality of behaviour support planning across the sector with the aim of reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices through general and targeted training and education sessions and the provision of relevant resources and materials.
- Monitor and report on client progress and efficacy of Positive Behaviour Support practice through the implementation of data collection and reporting strategies.
- Maintain information securely in electronic and hard copy form and ensure the privacy of confidential and sensitive information.
Your Mandatory Requirements:
- NDIS Worker Screening clearance (mandatory before commencing).
- A tertiary degree or higher qualification from a recognised university in psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, social work, nursing, social or behavioural sciences, or a related field (e.g., law, criminology, counselling) from a recognised tertiary institution with eligibility for full registration with the relevant registration board or membership with the relevant professional association.
- Evidence of work experience and/or specific training in the legislative framework for restrictive practices and the development and review of positive behaviour support plans in Queensland.
- Registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission as a behaviour support practitioner, or the ability to gain registration within 3 months of appointment.
- A Class “C” drivers' licence is desirable.
