This role's focus is to implement, oversee, coordinate and report on the delivery of the Northern Region's compliance program with a core focus within the Cape York Management Area. You will be responsible for leading and providing delivery of compliance activities, proactive and reactive law enforcement operations and responses and investigations and the mentoring and training of both Department staff and Indigenous Land Trust and Corporation Rangers under the Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL) Joint Management Program.

TARGETED VACANCY
This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified role. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander person. This position will lead and/or participate in the conduct of proactive compliance and enforcement patrols across protected areas, engaging with park users and co-ordinating responses to compliance and enforcement matters in accordance with the law and, where relevant, Traditional lore. The position will also conduct reactive investigation activities responding to a wide range of issues to ensure that an appropriate outcome is achieved relevant to the legislation administered by the department and will require the person to hold relevant Authorised Officer status under that legislation and in collaboration with the Senior Ranger (Compliance) and one other Ranger (Compliance), this position will also assist to co-ordinate and implement the presentation of the Indigenous Compliance Training Course.
The role's focus area is Cape York Management Area and is a combination of fieldand office-based activities, with the incumbent likely to be travelling for up to 10 days per month, particularly during the dry season (April — December) in remote and rugged locations by four-wheel drive vehicle. Furthermore, as part of the Cape York Aerial Compliance Program, this position will be required at times to participate in aerial patrols in rotary wing aircraft. The position may be required to be transported to and from location by small vessels if required.
Rangers ensure that the Queensland's national parks, state forests and reserves are protected, accessible and valued by all Queenslanders. Rangers work in partnership with local communities and other stakeholders to contribute to the land management, recreational and conservation outcomes across the protected areas which are managed by DES under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, Marine Parks Act 2004, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, Forestry Act 1959 and other relevant legislation.
