Mental Health Support Officer
Maryborough Correctional Centre; Custodial Operations; Aldershot
In this role you will be responsible for providing a range of welfare and psychosocial support and services that promote the mental health, well-being, and safety of adults accommodated in correctional centres.
The Mental Health Support Officer works closely with other Mental Health professionals to support the effective delivery of mental health and well-being assessment and intervention.

This role is an Individual Contributor under the Leadership Competencies for Queensland framework.
Within the context of the role accountabilities described in About the Role, the most suitable applicant will demonstrate their applied knowledge, skills and experiences against these essential role requirements of the Individual Contributor leadership stream:
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and skills to provide support and assistance to vulnerable cohorts focused on mental health and rehabilitation.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills to aid engaging with and supporting people with disability, aging, mental health and other complex needs.
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with clients to encourage, empower and support psychosocial goals whilst considering the impacts of the custodial environment.
- Highly developed skills at a competent level with the willingness to learn new IT skills and use internal information management databases as well as Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated experience to ensure tasks are completed within the required deadlines and in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate a range of problem-solving strategies, prioritise work tasks, and show initiative in identifying and solving problems both independently and as a team member
- Ability to use judgement and discretion with confidential information
- High level oral and written communication skills for gathering and providing information both over the phone and in person, to a range of stakeholders and ability to summarise information and data
- Ability to acquire knowledge of relevant acts and regulations

- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Allied Health Assistance and/or Disability is desirable.
