To be successful in this role, you will have proven ability supporting a team and projects, as well as analysing and solving problems, interpretating Acts and legislation, specifically Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and Aboriginal Land Act 1991, departmental policies and work procedures and the ability to provide expert advice.

Are you looking for a challenging but rewarding role where you will play a key part in implementing negotiated tenure actions and transfer of identified land?

We are currently looking for a Senior Land Officer to join our team to support the negotiated tenure actions and transfer of identified land to First Nations People.

Your contribution: 

In this role you will:

  • Use your skills and knowledge of relevant Acts including Aboriginal Land Act 1991, Land Act 1994, Cape York Peninsula Heritage Act 2007, Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
  • Articulate comprehensive and accurate technical advice relating to interpretation of the Acts, departmental policies and work procedures to all internal and external government staff and agencies.
  • Assist with coordinating and prioritising projects within the Program to ensure successful outcomes are achieved in a timely and efficient manner associated with transfer of land.
  • Assist in the preparation and/or coordination of briefing notes, program plans, submissions, reports and correspondence associated with the program and projects
  • Monitor land tenure and native title in accordance with legislation and community expectations.

About you: 

We are looking for:

  • Independence - you're a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
  • Initiative - you see what needs to be done and get stuck in without waiting to be asked
  • Project Management - you are exceptional in managing complex projects with conflicting deadlines
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Act 1991, Land Act 1994, Cape York Peninsula Heritage Act 2007, Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
