The Nurse Unit Manager practices with an advanced level of autonomy to provide nursing services within the rural/remote health service setting.

The Nurse Unit Manager is a senior level clinician and manager, accountable at an advanced level in the leading, directing and coordination of nursing and associated services within the clinical unit, providing the highest level of care to patients, while meeting national and professional standards.

The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for explicit portfolio content with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research. Nurse Unit Manager applies operational leadership and principals of clinical governance. Nurse Unit Manager's operationalise the strategies that support a work-based culture that promotes and support education, learning, research and workforce development.

Mitchell is a designated Remote Area Nursing Incentive Package (RANIP) site in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health) Award – State 2015. This attracts additional entitlements which may include:

• An annual isolation bonus paid annually!
• Return airfares to the nearest provincial city in conjunction with leave!
• Additional annual leave per annum!
