Join the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Communications Group and become the first point of contact when every second counts. As a Communications Operator (Triple Zero Call Taker and Police Dispatcher), you'll provide calm, clear guidance to people in urgent need while coordinating police resources to keep communities safe.
What to Expect
In this critical role, you'll:
• Answer emergency Triple Zero (000) calls - Be the first voice people hear in a crisis.
• Manage police radio dispatch duties - Coordinate resources for rapid response.
• Prioritise officer and public safety - Every decision matters.
• Assess and manage risk factors - Make critical judgments under pressure.
• Provide reassurance to distressed callers - Help them feel safe and supported.
• Operate advanced communication systems - Enable life-saving actions.
• Work in a 24/7, 365-day shift environment - Flexibility and resilience are key.
What You'll Bring:
• Strong questioning and listening skills to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Ability to think on your feet and confidently make critical decisions.
• Capacity to follow structured processes while navigating multiple IT systems.
• Fast and accurate typing skills.
• Willingness to work continuous shift patterns, understanding they may conflict with family/social commitments.
• Ability to talk, type, listen, and think simultaneously.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Resilience, professionalism, and patience in challenging situations.
• Passion and empathy with a genuine desire to assist those in need.
