The Rail Delivery & Safety team
The Rail Infrastructure Delivery Office is at the forefront of delivering transformative rail infrastructure across Queensland. As part of our team, you'll be contributing to:
• Lead the implementation of rail safety processes in line with project requirements, relevant legislation, and departmental policies.
• Develop and maintain project-specific safety management documentation, including procedures, plans, and reporting tools.
• Oversee safety assurance activities performed by contractors and ensure compliance with applicable standards and safety obligations.
• Coordinate and contribute to risk management activities, including hazard identification, risk assessments, safety observations, and the development of mitigation strategies.
• Prepare and deliver timely reports and briefings on safety performance, assurance activities, and emerging issues to the project leadership team.
• Support a positive safety culture by fostering strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as required in support of the safe delivery of the project.

What your day-to-day could look like
About you
• Proven experience applying relevant Work Health and Safety legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and Australian and ISO standards in a complex project environment.
• Practical knowledge and experience engaging with regulatory bodies such as the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) and the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, assess risk, and implement proactive safety management strategies.
• Experience working on major infrastructure or rail projects, ideally within a government or regulated environment.
• High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation, deliver presentations, and provide strategic safety advice to senior stakeholders.
• Competence using Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams) to support reporting, communication, and collaboration.
• A commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to stay up to date with industry best practice, legislative changes, and emerging safety risks.
