Your contribution as the Technical Officer (TO3), you will:
• Plan and undertake estuarine and marine water quality surveys and environmental field studies, including the operation, maintenance and proper stowage of field and laboratory equipment to deliver high quality data, observations, samples and specimens as required.
• Manage the quality assurance and operational requirements for Queensland water quality monitoring programs. This will include water quality sample storage, delivery, record keeping, in addition to the maintenance and calibration of water quality sensors, and associated laboratory equipment.
• Operate tow-vehicles, vessels under 12m, and associated equipment in accordance with accepted practices, procedures and standards. Lead in the maintenance and servicing of vehicles and vessels in accordance with established standards. This is a “hands on” position and the suitable applicant will be ready and willing to complete all vessel-related maintenance tasks such as replacing wheel bearings, performing vessel safety checks and workshop-related maintenance tasks.
• Assist in the technical development and implementation of specialist water quality and broader ecological monitoring activities including providing technical advice and training. This will include working with a diverse range of internal and external collaborators, such as regional DETSI staff, Traditional Owner groups, local organisations and the public. Providing technical expertise to successfully deliver tasks such as seagrass surveys and broader aquatic ecosystem health monitoring, particularly in terms of the use and maintenance of monitoring equipment, collection
and storage of samples and specimens, storage and analysis of field and laboratory data quality assurance procedures, and workplace health and safety procedures.

What we are looking for
• Demonstrated ability to contribute expertise in water quality monitoring to achieve project deliverables, including specialist technical skills related to water quality and biological monitoring, quality assurance practices, database quality control and the management, operation, calibration and maintenance of instrumentation used in environmental monitoring and laboratory practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with limited guidance, a range of staff, in remote field situations and in small vessels in challenging conditions.
• Proven ability to work as directed and use initiative to meet timeframes and objectives. Ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a professional manner, whilst operating within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal and public policy constraints.
• Proven ability to work as part of a diverse team, with a range of stakeholders, and demonstrate flexibility to accommodate change.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form so that messages are clearly and concise and use a style and approach adapted to suit the target audience.
