The Office of the Member for Currumbin is seeking a highly organised and community‑minded Assistant Electorate Officer to support the Member and Electorate Officer in delivering effective representation for the Currumbin community. The role provides administrative, research, communication and constituent‑support functions within a fast‑paced electorate office environment. Responsibilities include diary coordination, parliamentary preparation, media and correspondence support, community engagement, event coordination, and maintaining office systems and records. This position requires exceptional communication skills, strong administrative capability, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities while engaging professionally with constituents, community groups, and government agencies.

Do you enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment where every day brings something different? Are you someone who cares about your community and enjoys helping people? The Currumbin Electorate Office is looking for a friendly, organised, and community‑minded Assistant Electorate Officer (AEO) to join our team in a full‑time capacity.
In this role, you'll support the Member for Currumbin, Laura Gerber MP, and the Electorate Officer across a variety of tasks including constituent services, community engagement, administrative support, research, correspondence, and general office operations. You'll also have the opportunity to work closely with local schools, Surf Life Saving Clubs, sporting organisations, community groups and residents.
Key Criteria
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with a range of people.
- A respectful and professional approach when engaging with constituents, community groups and local businesses.
- Ability to work in a busy environment, manage deadlines and use good judgement.
- Confidence in completing research, interpreting information, and presenting clear recommendations.
- Strong administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Ability to manage competing tasks, show initiative, and solve problems as they arise.
- Knowledge of parliamentary processes is useful, but not essential - a willingness to learn is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Support
- Assist with managing the Member's diary, including booking appointments and coordinating meetings and events.
- Support the preparation of parliamentary materials such as briefing notes, Questions on Notice and research tasks.
- Maintain information systems and help ensure the Member stays informed on key matters.
- Monitor local issues through media tracking and community networks.
- Assist with media enquiries and help draft or prepare responses.
- Coordinate the Member's official travel, including liaising with Parliamentary Travel and preparing documentation.
- Support record‑keeping and assist with data entry in the Parliamentary Acquittal System.
Constituent and Community Engagement
- Engage with constituents and community organisations in person, by phone, email or mail.
- Provide accurate, timely information on government programs, services and policies.
- Support and maintain networks across community groups, referral services, government departments and ministerial offices.
- Assist with research into routine matters and help with more complex constituent cases.
- Assist in organising community events such as local shows, stakeholder forums and community barbecues.
- Attend community events and functions with, or on behalf of, the Member as required.
- Help prepare and distribute communications such as correspondence, newsletters, social media content, surveys and website updates.
- General Office Administration
- Support effective systems for storing, managing and retrieving documents and information.
- Report technical or equipment issues and assist with annual office stocktakes.
- Order and organise office supplies and stationery as needed.
- Undertake other administrative duties as directed by the Electorate Officer or the Member.
