The Senior Network Administrator will lead the design, management, enhancement, and security of our networking environment, collaborating with technical and project stakeholders. You will design, implement, operate, and troubleshoot a state-wide network, including core data centres, CBD MAN, and regional WAN sites, ensuring they meet operational/innovation needs. Key responsibilities include analysing, designing, and upgrading networking infrastructure, managing monitoring and reporting platforms, and ensuring security compliance.

Expertise in packet capture, load balancing, Palo Alto, Cisco ISE, firewalls, AZSentinel, routing, switching, wireless technologies, Azure networking, Infrastructure as Code (IAC), network requirements for VMS, IP telephony and video conferencing (e.g., QoS), and remote access (e.g., Microsoft Remote App, OpenVPN) is highly valued. Industry-recognised certifications are highly regarded.

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

• Configure, implement, and provide ongoing management of Gateway and Endpoint Security systems for the TSU covert network.
• Lead the development and maintenance of the QPS Covert network infrastructure.
• Provide a high level of technical expertise, advice, and service to projects and IT systems used by the TSU.
• Provide expert input into the design, development, and implementation of a range of networking and security solutions for the TSU.
• Provide a high level of technical leadership and mentor a small work group of IT and engineering professionals in the TSU.
• Apply appropriate project and time management skills to meet agreed timeframes and outcomes.
• Critically assess and as required develop proposals for the determination of new IT policies, standards, and procedures to meet the current and future needs of the TSU and ensure compliance with Queensland Police Service policies.

Role Requirements

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

Highly Desirable:

• Expert knowledge of switching and routing technologies.
• Expert knowledge of network infrastructure and related technologies including LAN, WAN, Wireless WAN, VPN and remote access systems.
• Experience with Load Balancing Technologies
• Configuration and Management of Network Firewalls, VPN & Remote Access Systems.
• Network security technologies
• Understanding and implementation of Essential 8

Desirable:

o Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of QPS Operating Systems.
o Configuration and Management of authentication mechanisms.
o Firewall configuration and management.
o Cisco Certified Networking Associate/Professional
o Microsoft Certified Desktop Support

Special Conditions:

The following special conditions are required for each member of the Technical Surveillance Unit:

• A capacity to undertake the functions of an RF worker in compliance with Service policy in matters pertaining to working at heights, RF exposure, training, and other associated activities.
• The recruitment process requires all applicants to complete and sign a “Health and Suitability Declaration” form stating that they are unaware of any medical condition or predisposing physical or mental characteristic that would preclude them from safely undertaking duties as a Senior Network Specialist.
• Preferred applicant/s will be required to undertake a pre-placement medical examination, which includes eye testing and psychometric assessment. (Note: Please refer to the attached ‘Pre-Placement Health Assessment' section for further information).
• Ability to travel intra/interstate to perform duties and work in a mixture of indoor and outdoor environments as required.
• The position may entail exposure to material (written, visual and audio) of an explicit, graphic and/or sensitive nature.
• Ability to work in a declared low risk operational environment assisting technical surveillance installations.
• A current C class licence.
• Applicants are advised that this business unit may schedule some operational activities outside of business hours, including on-call roster.
