Role details

The Women's Health Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse/Midwife Consultant (Mobile Women's Health) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse Consultant/Clinical Midwife Consultant is an employee who is a registered nurse / registered midwife who:

  • Is appointed to an advanced practice nursing and/or midwifery position; and
  • Demonstrates a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set. 

About the Team

Mackay Base Hospital Women's Services operates within a co-design philosophy that involves working in partnership with women, families, community, and staff from all our facilities to develop a contemporary women centred model of care. The Women's Health Service is defined as a level 4 Maternity and Neonatal Service as defined in the Clinical Services Capability Framework. The Mobile Women's Health Service (MWHS) will be operationally supported and managed by the Women's Health Unit.

The MWHS will provide an important outreach health service for women in rural and remote communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, who may be geographically or socially isolated. The service will be required to cover up to 15 locations across the Mackay Health service and will be facilitated by a speciality trained Clinical nurse consultant who works as a sole practitioner to provide services that assist in the prevention, early detection, and management of women's health issues. The MWHS will travel within a radius of 500 kilometres, from their base to provide health services for women either individually or in group settings. Services include education on a broad range of women's health issues, the provision of gynaecological clinical services such as cervical, screening, and sexual health services.
