About US
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is a Queensland Government department, responsible for managing Queensland's transport networks, which include road, rail, air, and sea services. TMR oversees approximately 33,000 km of state roads, employing approx. 12,000 people.
The Role
As a Inspector (Roadworks) within TMR your role responsibilities are varied and will differ from project to project. Reporting to a Senior Roadworks Inspector, your duties will include inspecting new construction works, routine, programmed, rehabilitation and reactive maintenance contracts, third party road corridor works including public
utility plant and developer works and supporting the management of critical incident and declared disaster events.
Whatever project, program of works or incident you are working on your focus will always support high levels of safety and delivery of quality, economy and governance outcomes.
As a TMR Inspector (Roadworks), you will be given a lot of autonomy, with responsibilities ranging from the provision of guidance and advice across all aspects of roadworks, contract administration and risk management to conducting surveillance inspections of contractor's work. You may also provide temporary traffic management to conducting quality, environment controls and safety, ensuring compliance with specification, legislation requirements and contract conditions.
About You
Every day is different at TMR, and so are our Inspector teams, we are considering people from various backgrounds who have a passion and focus for safety, quality and project delivery.
If you are currently an experienced Construction Supervisor working on transport infrastructure, or Senior Workplace Health & Safety Officer, or perhaps currently employed (or previously) as a Roads Inspector, Civil Works Inspector or Surveillance Officer, with the following skills and attributes, we would love to hear from you;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in either civil maintenance, construction or infrastructure related projects.
• A sound understanding of contract administration to help administer complex contracts.
• Comfortable working within a supportive team environment with the ability to also work independently and autonomously.
• Skilled in time-management and prioritisation, with the ability to independently schedule site visits, reporting, conducting contractor audits, maintaining detailed records, and following legislative guidelines and standards.
• Highly developed written and verbal communications with the ability to remain calm under pressure, as required when attending disaster incidents, investigating complaints and reducing tensions by effectively communicating across a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Mandatory Requirements: You must hold a current “C” Class Driver's licence.
• Certificate III in Civil Construction is highly desirable.
