About the Role

The Department of Education is committed to the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees, students, and school communities. Creating safe, healthy, and supportive workplaces requires shared responsibility, strong leadership, and practical, school-focused support.

As a Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator, you will work within the SER region, providing dedicated, on-site support to Eagleby South State School, with the potential to support additional schools as the role evolves. This position plays a key role in strengthening local health and safety practices by working closely with school leadership, Health and Safety Representatives, and regional teams to support compliance, manage risks, and embed a positive safety culture.

This is a hands-on, relationship-focused role that supports the day-to-day coordination of workplace health and safety activities, including hazard and incident management, consultation, risk assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives. By being embedded within the school environment, the WHS Coordinator helps ensure health and safety systems are practical, effective, and responsive to the unique needs of the school community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing timely and confidential advice to school leadership and staff on health, safety, and wellbeing matters.
  • Collaborating with regional and corporate teams to ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System (HSWMS).
  • Coordinating audits, inspections, and emergency preparedness, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Supporting ill or injured staff through early intervention, rehabilitation, and return-to-work processes.
  • Facilitating training and awareness activities to promote safe workplaces and a positive safety culture.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at the local level, while being supported by regional expertise and aligned with broader departmental health and safety priorities.

About You

The following traits would be beneficial:

  • Experience in workplace health and safety coordination or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Ability to analyse data and identify trends to inform safety strategies.
  • Experience in facilitating training and promoting a positive safety culture.

Why Join Us

Step into your next chapter! This role is suited to health and safety professionals who enjoy working in specialised and complex environments, supporting proactive risk management, injury management, and staff wellbeing. You will work alongside the principal and school leadership teams, playing a key role in strengthening safety systems, supporting effective incident response, and promoting positive work practices through early intervention and collaboration. You will also benefit from a comprehensive induction program, regional expertise, and a collaborative work environment that values inclusion, integrity, and excellence.
