Key responsibilities:
• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 & supports departmental programs & community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Deliver best practice statutory casework services to young people with minimal supervision using high level assessment & intervention skills to deliver integrated & culturally appropriate services, including intensive weekly engagement with families, community organisations & other key stakeholders, in accordance with the legislative, policy & procedural requirements.
• Prepare & present information and evidence to the Children's Court, including an ability to conduct pre & post court interviews, liaise with key court stakeholders & prepare pre-sentence reports, affidavits & other documentation as required.
• Engage with & establish partnerships with a broad range of internal & external stakeholders & service providers, in a number of local areas, to establish an appropriate therapeutic alliance to achieve quality casework outcomes.
• Provision & effective coordination of the therapeutic alliance, formulating a singular case plan with consistent action orientated goals to support the young person and their family members. This may include assisting a parent/guardian, sibling and/or young person to obtain employment, re-engage in education, address substance misuse, access physical and mental health services, access safe housing, learn responsible parenting skills, address anti-social behaviour, & improve community participation.
• Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case records, preparation of reports, & data entry to ensure casework & accountability in accordance with policy & procedures & as requested by Management.
• Liaise with & seek advice & approval from the relevant Youth Justice Service Centre staff in relation to the management of complex cases, development of programs, the exercising of statutory delegations, payment of program related costs & other matters as required.
• Actively participate in & deliver training & professional development activities to develop, maintain & enhance knowledge & competencies to ensure that service delivery is based on contemporary, evidence based, best practice principles & is consistent with current practice trends & departmental objectives.
• Actively participate in regular formal & informal supervision, apply self-reflective practices & contribute to peer supervision.
• Undertake leadership & mentoring role to less experienced staff including supervision of Youth Workers involved in the Intensive Case Management Program.
Mandatory Qualifications / Requirements:
• Possession of a tertiary degree relevant to the role such as social work, behavioural science or social science, criminology, or other recognised degree.
• Travel is a requirement of this position. The applicant must hold a current “C” Class Drivers licence. While the position is based in Toowoomba, travel to regional centres & other offices will be required from time to time. This may include overnight stays.
• Applicants are encouraged to provide a referee who is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills & experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities. (This is not a mandatory requirement).
